Per the Journal Sentinel on 8/29/13, Milwaukee’s new rail concouse, which will serve Amtrak passenger trains, will include hearing loop technology. The loop technology “allows passengers with smart hearing aids to receive annoucements in the concourse”. This new accommodation allows those with hearing loss to hit the telecoil button on their hearing aids and hear the train announcements right in their ears–no background noise, no problems with reverberation, and no distance issues. Amtrak in New York City and in Washington, D.C., has hearing loops at the help stations. Other transportation venues with hearing loops include all new taxicabs in New York City, 250 subway stations there, and three airports in Michigan.
